THE EYES HAVE IT

043 – MARCH 2007

THE EYES HAVE IT

Psalm 139:14 “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made:
marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well”

You have these two fleshy spheres in your skull that begin the process that enables you to see the outside physical world? The outside enters inside your soul by going through a little hole, traveling through a little nerve, entering your fleshy brain, displaying a moving picture of what is out there, and causing you to say “Wow!” Do you understand? Sure! Mmmm, not really!
It raises a lot of questions.
Your body is equipped with the round things and your soul is packaged in your body. So is it your body or your soul that actually sees the stuff?
Why doesn’t the process require you to be hooked to some LTD or plasma screen? No, your soul is the screen! It’s just there! You see it! You walk around and take it all in.
Think about it! How many ways can I say it before you begin to get dizzy about it?
Take a walk and look around. Be amazed that you are this single breathing soul with some miraculous ability to see the physical world. Take a minute to lift your eyes from this paper and marvel with a dropped jaw.

Sight! I wonder how those little evolutionary one celled things thought that this would be a great gadget to have. How did they even know that there was a physical world out there? Did they hear something? Did they get ears first? The brain must have come first? It had to!
Maybe all these one celled living globs gathered in the corner of a room and one of them (probably an owl cell) said “I sense that there is more. We need to see!”
They strained for millions of years and some were able to develop these 2 skull balls (How did they know that they would need 2 eyes for depth?) Those that were successful eventually became lions, ants, fish, dogs, birds, orangutans, and human beings, etc. The other living cells simply did not try hard enough and never got the eyes. Trees, grass, or plants?
Anyhow, there are many things to ponder but, for this moment, take the time to be
overwhelmed with the gift of “sight” and how it relates to purpose. Although, it’s nice to understand the diagram and answer the “How?”, it’s eternally important to go beyond and allow yourself to ask the “Why?” Why are we here? What is it all about? There must be more than just “birth to death for 90 years”. And I thank God, through Jesus Christ, that there is!

2 Cor 4:18 “While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which
are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.”
