TRUST IN GOD

TRUST IN GOD

I was so humored with the question to Dionne Warwick regarding the 1998
bankruptcy of her Psychic Friends Network (PFN). As Warwick persisted that these were bona fide psychics, the interviewer asked, “So, if that is true, why didn’t they foresee that your ‘psychic network hotline’ was going to go bankrupt?”

Proverbs 3:5 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; and lean not unto your own understanding.”

John Stossel (ABC News, 20/20) had a great series titled “Give Me a Break”, with which he exposed some myths, lies and other silly things. At the end of each investigative report, he would say - “Give me a break.”
My most favorite of these reports was when he collected 30 astrological believing people in a room. He asked them to fill out a personal information form which he would feed into a computer for a personal horoscope report based upon their “sign”.
As the computer results were handed out, each person shared approval and astonishment at this incredibly accurate account of their personality and their future. After 5 minutes of excitement (laughing, crying, and hugging), Stossel asked this question, “What would you think if I told you that you all received the same report?”
There was a long and freaky silence before he said “You all have the same report!”
You could feel their panic as he prepared them for his 2nd question, “What would you think if I told you that it was a copy of an astrological computer report from personal information given by a mass murderer on death row?”
There was a longer and more freaky silence just before he said “It is!”
Stossel then closed with his anticipated adieu, “Give me a break!”

Many enthusiasts will ask, What is your sign?”
I used to answer their question quickly … to which they would reply “I knew it!” Now, I answer “You tell me!” They go through 6 or more guesses before they
answer correctly. Then, astonishingly, they triumphantly declare, “I knew it!”

Psalm 118:8 “It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.”

Why do people trust in psychics, horoscopes, fortune tellers, or … tarot cards?
Some stranger deals out a bunch of cards and prognosticates a bunch of stuff! What makes her look so reliable? The scarf around her head? The glass ball on the table? The mole on her cheek? The $50 fee? Think about it – This innocent ‘dabbling’ could harm your invaluable life with misdirection. Maybe God has someone with blue eyes for you!

Why put your trust in ‘silly things’? You can be assured of peace and healthy restful nights by trusting in God. Ask Him!

Isaiah 26:3 “God will keep in perfect peace all who trust in Him, all whose thoughts are fixed on Him!
